Beat the Heat

When Salt Lake City hits 100+ degrees, how do you stay cool? We decided a trip up the canyon to Pineview would be a great way to cool off and have some fun, lots of fun! We had some trouble with the trailer lights, so after a detour to the trailer supply store we are on the road again. We finally get there and get the boat launched by 11:00.
It was a beautiful day at Pineview, the mountain peaks still have some snow, imagine that! Some got to go skiing. I had to stay back and fix Emily some lunch and give her cornstarch. Heat + water = hypoglycemia. So we try to get her to eat snacks, drink plenty of fluids, and always stay on schedule.

Of course a trip to Pineview would never be complete without getting pulled over by the ranger. Here is Dad on his float tube getting a "talking to" about his lack of safety and not obeying the rules.

Now we need to call the boat over and make sure they get "talked to." Lucky for us we just got a warning. Honestly can't we all just get along and have some fun! Dad was just trying to help the small children up on ski's by sitting in the water with them on a float tube telling them how to get up and comforting them while they sit all alone in the big lake. That's what happens when you don't have a life jacket on while sitting on a tube, outside the wake less zone. Anyway.....

Here's Grandma sitting on the beach.

Emily loves the beach and swimming in the lake, as long as there are no sharks!

Michael and Emily would swim for hours and bring up buckets of water to dump on the beach and watch the water run back to the lake.

Emily swimming in the lake, "Will you get out already? It's time to eat!"

After lunch everybody switches play places. Here is Tony , Michael, and Alex tubing. "Not too fast"

Now it's the girls turn! Here is Emily and Courtney. "Slow down" You might actually move. Emily screamed the whole time from the top of her lungs, which if you know Emily you know that she is louder than any known person or animal with or without voice amplifying devices. She didn't want the boat to pull them AT ALL.

Todd and Curt decide to help them out a little by riding behind them. Now we are moving!
Curt and Courtney. Todd and Emily. Tony and Michael are watching.

"Let's get rid of the girls and really have some fun" Curt, behind the rope, nice picture. Todd falling out of his tube.

Here's Alex safely watching the whole thing from the bow of the boat.

Todd and Curt. Nice air Todd.

Even better!

It's always so fun to watch them trying to hold on and not fall out. Tiffany laughed so hard she almost wet her pants, which isn't hard to do after you've had a couple of kids.

Courtney and Michael floating in the tubes.

Dad and Tiffany get to take a turn behind the boat. Lucky for Tiffany, she deleted my very flattering picture of her flying off her tube legs first.

Alex, Back on the beach.

Tony, Michael, and Zack riding the water rocket. It's very scary in the front where you can see how high you are and how big the waves are. Tony wanted to slow down and Michael wanted to go faster until they switched seats. Then Michael decided faster wasn't better.

Everyone took a huge wave and fell off. Except for Michael, way to ride the wave!

On the beach the kids wanted to make a river. Here's Emily gathering water for the river. Hey, I think there is a hole in your bucket!

Way to think it through. Get two buckets! Here is the beginning of what Michael called "The city of Nauvoo."

Michael, building the river.

Grandma and Michael building the city next to the "Mississippi River."

Here is their "city of Nauvoo." This must be when the pioneers first got there and started building the city.

Todd decided to give a hand and make the city bigger. This must have been after they had built the city and everyone was prospering.

Complete with awesome buildings built on the bridges. (I don't think they had bridges across the Mississippi then, oh well.)

Very nice job. Michael thought it was the best city ever built!

They found one squirt gun that Alex must try out. However after it had been sitting in the boat for so long it was very difficult to maneuver. Todd helped Alex drench everyone!

Here it comes Grandpa! Todd and Alex

Hmm, maybe if I use my foot for leverage I can pull the end out to fill the gun. PULL HARDER!

One last swim before it's time to go.

Dinner is served at Burger King. Amanda, Michael, Zack, Tonya, Emily and (half) Alex.

As a reward for playing so hard Alex got a huge ice cream cone. Yummmmm
